Open Meeting – February: 200 Years of Charles Dickens

[ 1 February 2012; 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm. ] 2012 is Dickens Year! The great Victorian writer was born on 7th February 1812. Reason enough for us to dedicate our first Open Meeting this year to him. Come and join us for an evening where we discuss the life and time of this author, whose work transcends his own era, language and culture.

Open Meeting – July: Last Night Of The Proms (Intro)

[ 6 July 2011; 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. ] Did you ever happen to come across a strange programme on TV, usually broadcast during the last days of summer, showing large crowds of people, dressed in red and blue, fervently singing and swaying and waving flags in some kind of opera house? Congratulations! You have become a witness of one of the most famous and typically British cultural events: The Last Night Of The Proms! The BBC’s Proms (short for “Promenade Concerts”) are running for eight weeks during the summer, mostly at the Royal Albert Hall in London, and are “The World’s Greatest Classical Music Festival”.
