This year’s UK General Election has resulted in the first coalition government since the end of World War II. The voters as well as the UK’s political institutions are heading for interesting times. While there has been experience with coalition government at the national level in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, many analysts have described this form of government as incompatible with or even as the total inversion of the so-called Westminster system of majority rule.
In co-operation with the Chair of British Cultural Studies of TU Dresden, we have invited Prof. Dr. Klaus Stolz, Professor of British Studies at TU Chemnitz, to give a lecture on the topic of “The UK After The Election” on Tuesday, June 15th, 2010, 8 pm, at Herbert-Wehner-Bildungswerk.
Klaus Stolz has studied Political Science, British Studies and History at the Universities of Freiburg (DE) and Edinburgh (GB) 1985-92. He holds a Phd from the University of Freiburg (1997) and habilitated at the University of Goettingen in 2007. Stolz has taught in Politics at the Universities of Freiburg, Mannheim, Goettingen, Edinburgh and Barcelona and is currently Professor of British and American Cultural Studies and Laenderkunde at the University of Technology, Chemnitz, the chair previously held by Prof. Hans Kastendiek. His research interests include Comparative Political Science, Regions and Regionalism in Europe, Politics as a Profession as well as the Cultures, Societies and Politics of Britain, the US and Scotland.
